As I mentioned last week, we just moved! Yes, another PCS is in the books. We have all our stuff and only 2 things were broken and we’ve already been paid out. This move was so well organized, I have to give myself kudos for an organized and easy to make PCS binder. And since I am so happy with it, I’m sharing it with you too!
For our PCS binder, I actually use an accordion folder. You don’t need to worry about page protectors as pockets being overstuffed or trying to track down a 3-hole punch. I keep my checklist in the front of the folder and use it as a table of contents. It’s important to keep all your kid’s stuff organized so you can register them for school and daycare without having to track down a bunch of paperwork. I have found getting a physical and a copy of their shot records at your last duty station makes registering them easier at the new one since you don’t have to jump through hoops to get an appointment with their new doctor.
I also put all of Hubs’ work stuff and medical records that he was given to hand-carry. This made his inprocessing go smoothly and he didn’t have to sit around and fill out additional paperwork. Having our hotel information was also key. I made an excel with the distance from each hotel to the next, along with the address, so when we woke up in the middle of Arizona, I had the mileage and address all ready for me. Yes, you could keep that all on your phone but what if there is no service? For much of our drive, we didn’t have good signal so keeping an analog is always a good idea.
What about you? What is a must-have on your PCS checklist? Did I forget anything?
