Can you believe Valentine’s Day is almost a month away? I can’t. I wanted to break out the Valentine decorations right after we packed away our Christmas decorations but Hubs put his foot down and so we had to wait. But that didn’t stop us from getting our craft on! Oh course, we were able to get all we needed from Oriental Trading and I am not ashamed to say I will be back to get some more things for my mantel.
Anyway, our family does little valentines for each other so this year, we decorated little mailboxes so that we can deliver our valentines without having a huge pile of them somewhere.
First of all, you will need some metal mailboxes. I got some in red and some in white. I also picked up a package of foam hearts to decorate the mailboxes with. You will also need some glass candlesticks, hot glue, glue sticks, and a marker.
Using a hot glue gun, trace around the edge of the candle stick and then press it into the bottom of the mailbox. Hold it for a second to make sure the glue sets in. Then you are ready to decorate! The kids used regular glue sticks to paste their hearts onto the mailboxes. I showed them how to layer the heart and it was game over. Blueberry was hooked on it.
Once we were done decorating our mailboxes, I took a permanent marker and wrote down our names so we would all know which mailbox belonged to which person. I let the kids pick which heart to put their name on and I was the only one who chose the heart on the front of the mailbox. Kids and their creativity man.
I love how easy these were and how cute they turned out. I think these will be a great tradition to share with the kids about giving thoughtful letters and notes to each other in the month of February.
What about you? Are you doing any crafting this month?
