One of the other things we did on our weekend to Denver was to check out the Aquarium. Now, we’ve just spent 3 years in Hawaii. The aquarium there is smaller than your house. And it only has creatures that you would find literally 30 feet away. This aquarium was huge and had “themed” rooms. You know the type, oceans, rivers, etc. I at first thought it was so cheesy that we were “walking through the Amazon,” but then my husband reminded me that we were in a land-locked state and this is how aquariums really are. Whoops.
Now my kids love fish. They love aquariums. They love that one aisle at Walmart so they really enjoyed our trip. In addition to fish, there were a variety of reptiles and even a tiger for some reason. There is also a restaurant that is in the “center” of a fish tank and divers and mermaids do shows but 99% of the food was fried so it was a no-go for us.
The aquarium was actually a good time, you go through the world, seeing all the different fish and the best part is – there’s no gift shop at the end! Okay, there is a carnival-type thing where you pay to play games to win souvenirs but those are so much easier to reroute the kids through than a store with toys right at eye level.
We also stayed overnight in Denver. We got a room at the Holiday Inn Express. It is an IHG hotel and Hubs is a super-mega rewards member due to all his business trips so we got a great price on a 2 room suite. At first, we were like “that’s too much room!” but no, it was just enough. The main bedroom had a king bed and a bathroom so we stuffed the bigger 3 kids in there at bedtime. Because they were in a closed room, we could watch TV and hang out without having to whisper or yell at kids to stop playing and go to sleep! Suite life is our life from now on I think.
Have you ever been to Denver? What is your favorite spot?
