One of my husband’s favorite times of the year is Halloween. It’s the kick off for the holiday season and we take it seriously. Since we just moved to a new community, we are looking forward to BOOing our neighbors and trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. We live in farm town and there are animals everywhere. A couple weeks ago, we saw a sign for kitten adoptions. Several farms have mousers but they were overwhelmed with a litter of cats so we graciously took 2 little girls off their hands. So selfless, I know.
To repay the favor and give those mousers a nice treat for the holiday, we decided we would BOO them. We are a cat household and love other cat households. While dogs are allowed to attend costume parties and you can take them on walks and stuff, cats usually don’t get to do that and having them be left out makes me sad so I created a BOO Bundle for all the mousers in our neighborhood.
Want to make one too? You can get everything you need at Walmart. For the cats, I picked up some SHEBA® PERFECT PORTIONS™ Chicken Paté (you already know my love for them), 1 bag of Temptations® classic treats for cats tasty chicken flavor, and 1 bag of Temptations® classic treats for cats savory salmon flavor. American Greetings® also has all the treat bags and stickers you could ask for. All the craft supplies I used were also found in Walmart. It’s the one-stop shop for building your BOO Bundle.
Making your Cat O’lantern Bag
To make your Cat O’Lantern Bag you need:
- 2 pieces of orange felt
- 1 piece of black felt
- a length of ribbon for the handle
- coordinating thread
Step One: cut out 3 triangles out of the black felt, 2 eyes and 1 nose. Cut out 6 rectangles for the whiskers and pin all 9 pieces to 1 piece of the orange felt.
Step Two: using black thread, sew the face to the orange felt. I used a straight stitch around the edge of each triangle and a zigzag stitch straight down each whisker.
Step Three: Place the 2 pieces of orange felt together with the face on the inside of the bag. Sew around 3 edges to make your bag.
Step Four: holding the long end of the bag, pull the corner out and sew across to form a triangle. Trim this triangle off and turn the bag right-side-out. This will box your corners so you bag can stand up on it’s own. Using a zigzag stitch, attach the ribbon to the short ends of the bag to form a handle.
Now you’re ready to stuff your BOO Bundle!
For the ghostly toys you will need:
- tulle in the shape of a circle (found in the arts and craft section of Walmart)
Step One: take 2 feathers and insert them into one side of ball.
Step Two: Take 2 circles of tulle and wrap up the ball. Using the string, secure the tulle and feathers with a double knot and then a bow. Now your ghosts are ready for the BOO Bundle.

I love BOOing neighbors because it’s a fun and easy way to get to know the people in your neighborhood and a nice way to insert yourself into a new place. Don’t be afraid to BOO your next door neighbor. If you’ve never reached out to them, this is a great way to start a relationship. Who would you like to BOO this year?
