Well folks, we moved. You know that already. We were planning to live on base but when I got pregnant, we quickly discovered the houses on base would not be large enough to accommodate all 6 of us and all our junk so we decided to look off base. Rentals off base are tricky. Most of the houses we liked were either too far away or didn’t allow cats (but dogs up to 150lbs, wtf?). So I floated the idea of buying and Hubs was down. We started stalking Zillow and found some nice houses. Then we realized we should probably start talking to a realtor so we could actually buy a house. We tried a couple but they didn’t mesh with us and so I looked at USAA and we used their home buying service and got a great realtor.
We were initially going to wait until we got in town to start looking at houses but our realtor warned us that anything we liked online probably wouldn’t still be for sale a month later because of the market and she offered to go to the houses and Skype with us. The movers were packing up our house in Hawaii as I looked at the houses. We had narrowed it down to 3 houses. The first 2 were nice on the inside but the neighborhoods weren’t my favorite. The last house she looked at was my favorite one and once we saw it, we knew, this was the house we wanted. We put in an offer that day. Buying a house is easy with a computer, we were able to sign EVERYTHING online, and our offer was accepted the next morning. We got so lucky because the sellers had just reduced the price by $15,000!
We were in a temporary house for about 2 weeks until we closed. Our household goods were already here so we were just waiting on the keys. Our house has 4 bedrooms (Mac and the baby will share), a bonus room aka toy area, a formal living room, and an office! So now I have a great space for all my crafts and sewing and blogging. The kids have their toy area and Hubs has a gym set up in one of the garages. I love it. I never thought we’d buy a house but hey, at 30 I guess it was a good time.
I have been decorating on Pinterest and in my house since we moved in and I can’t wait to show off the rooms. I love home decorating. If it was an easier career field, I might have pursued it. Oh well, Hubs will just get to reap the benefits of my design eye. And our new purple couch. 😀
When you move to a new place, what’s your favorite part?
