I love decorating our house. I once thought I would be an interior designer but that ship sailed. One thing that’s always fun is decorating a new baby’s nursery. With Blueberry, she just got Piglet’s hand-me-downs but Macadamia, he was getting all new stuff. And when I found out Disney Baby had a new Finding Nemo Baby collection, how could I resist? I mean, we’re in Hawaii. An ocean-themed nursery is practically a given.
So, I headed down to Walmart and got to shopping. They have a couple new designs, the Mickey Mouse one is super cute, so is the Minnie Mouse one (but that’s a little too girly for Macadamia). I already had my heart set on Nemo, so once I found the 3 piece set, I was set.
In the 3 piece set I picked up, there’s a quilt, a sheets, and a crib skirt. I’ve never used a crib skirt before but I was pretty excited to see how it would look on my crib.
The quilt is adorable. Nemo is featured, looking all adorable. It’s a good size for keeping baby warm and for doing tummy time too.
The crib skirt is also cute. The circles are like little bubbles in the ocean. And it looked really good on my crib. I’m sad I didn’t get a crib skirt with the other kids because it really makes the whole crib look complete.
The sheet is a standard size, which is good because my crib is weird and sometimes sheets don’t fit but this one fits perfectly so yay! The pattern is also really cute. Each wave looks like seaweed floating in the ocean but upon closer look, it’s actually little fish. So cute!
And there you have it, the final look. I painted an ocean scene for the wall and I think this section of the nursery looks great. There are more items in the collection I want to get, like a changing pad cover and mobile and the best part is, I can get all the items I need online.
I also couldn’t resist the Monsters Inc. so I used some of their receiving blankets to do a refresh on the changing table. Before, it was a mess. Diapers, wipes, creams were everywhere. And the change table cover was old. One thing I have learned from 3 kids is sometimes, they have a blowout and when that happens, the change table cover is one of the first things to get messy.
Well my friends, no more! I came up with a quick and cute solution I hope you will enjoy.
First, gather your supplies. I got a couple baskets from the bathroom aisle in the DIY section of Walmart and a 4-pack of Monsters Inc. receiving blankets.
As you can see they’re super cute. The colors still coordinate with Nemo and Mike and Sully look great. They’re made of super soft flannel and are actually really big.
Take a receiving blanket and fold it so the two ends meet in the middle (like in the top picture), that way there’s a smooth edge on either side and no grabby baby hands can unfold it. Then lay it on top of the change table pad. Next time baby decides to share the wealth, all you have to do is remove the blanket and wash! No more changing the entire pad.
I used the second basket to keep the other 3 blankets right where I need them so when one needs to be changed, there’s one always ready. The only thing that keeps me from keeping things clean is having to go search for something. Having them right in my reach is the best solution.
Plus they’re cute so they double as decoration!
Which of the new Disney Baby nursery collections would you choose? I’d love to see your look!
