November is a big birthday month in our house. Everyone but me celebrates this month. For the hubs birthday, it was almost perfect. Parent’s Night Out was on Saturday, his birthday was on Friday. We were going to have a proper date. But, hey, we’re in the Army and they had other plans. He had to go to a work thing Saturday so on Friday, we recreated The Melting Pot.
First, we had a cheesy appetizer while the kids ate their dinner. I bought some good cheddar and gruyère cheese and a single can of beer (which I bought at 9 am and felt super weird. like, don’t mind me, just buying my morning beer).
I shredded 4 ounces of each cheese then I melted about 2 tablespoons of butter and then whisked in some flour. Once the flour was whisked in, I added 8 ounces of beer and the cheese.
After it was all melty and good, we ate it with some apples and some bread. It was delicious.
After the kids went to bed. We finally had a chance to use the fondue set and grill that I got the hubs for last Christmas. For the broth, I made some chicken broth and added some jerk seasoning and half a glass of orange juice. The broth smelled so good, I couldn’t wait to dig in! We cooked up some shrimp, chicken, and steak along with some broccoli and mushrooms. I was going to make the “green goddess” sauce from the restaurant but I’m the only one who would eat it and it seemed like a lot of work. Oh well.
It was so delicious and it was a nice chance for us to catch up and have adult conversations. We should have at home date night more often!
