One of the things I love about Christmas is all the decorations. I have many themed areas around the house and the kids are always trying to play with decorations that look like toys. This usually ends in either me yelling or something being broken and me still yelling. This year, I decided to let the kids make their own little trees for their room and I used several ornament kits from Oriental Trading to choose from so I picked 4, 2 that you just colored, 1 with fun tea lights for noses, and 1 build-a-character kit. There was plenty of variety and plenty of fun to be had.
It was pretty funny to see the different techniques each kid used. Blueberry was really into coloring the entire wooden ornament while the boys were into scribbles. But the biggest hit by far were the tea lights. Since I didn’t get any lights for the tree, these were perfect to light up the tree in the evening.
Last night is the first night they had their trees in their rooms and I was happy to greet them and see the trees still intact. I thought for sure they would be playing with them all night and there would be ornaments in the bed but no, they abstained from that nonsense. 😛
I feel like this could turn into a tradition where they make new ornaments for their tree. I once overheard my mom say her dream was to have a decorated tree in every house and I thought how wonderful that would be and with these trees, I am well on my way to making that dream a reality.
Do you make ornaments with your family? I would love to see some of your traditions!
