Well. It happened. My Nugget turned 1. I know, I am just as shocked as you. I tried to keep him from growing but he refused. My last baby isn’t a baby anymore. 🙁 Since his birthday is a few days before Halloween, we decided for his party, it would NOT be spooky-themed. I wanted to make sure we made his birthday was purposeful. While the house was decorated with fall stuff, we set up a cowboy party in the middle of it all. Cowboy you ask? Well, we are in the wild, wild West after all.
I got all of his party supplies from Oriental Trading. I have loved being an ambassador for them this past year. They have something for literally every occasion and I would not have been able to throw this party without their help. For the spread, we had berries and cake. Nugget got his own stacked mini-cake. After Piglet just throwing an entire cake on the floor, we have learned that cake-smashing a cupcake is much better. Especially for me because cleaning up a sticky baby is gross. Everyone got a cowboy hat to wear and the party favors were a bandana, noise maker, sheriff badge, and lollipop.
I made him a shirt to wear and after I set up, we got to partying. His Nanny got him a couple toys that all the other kids were immediately jealous of and we got him a walker and “My First Chair” – which every kid has gotten on their first birthday. Traditions yo! He loved all the attention and got a kick out of the new toys. I don’t want to stereotype him but he loves anything with wheels. And we’ve recently been watching “The Magic Schoolbus” (classic not reboot) so the bus was just perfect.
Finally it was cake time. We sang Happy Birthday and Hubs helped blow out the candle and then we let him go for it. At first, he was not impressed and just kind of patted it. The kids got into their goodie baskets and started hootin’ and hollerin’ like a true cowboy. I loved how cute the bandanas looked around their neck! The lollipops were a huge hit with Mac’s dinosaur party and these were no different. I seriously could have just bought a case of them.
After a while, Nugget got In To his cake. The most out of any kid I think. I mean, it wasn’t frosted very nicely but it was made with love. Or something. Blueberry said hers was delicious and tried to eat Mac’s. Yes, I only made 3 small cakes, Whole30 got me like 🙁 and Piglet doesn’t eat cake so there’s that. It was a great afternoon and I think Nugget enjoyed his birthday. I’m a little sad we won’t ever have another first birthday but 2nd birthday’s are pretty cool too.
Are you planning a party soon? Can Oriental Trading help you out?
