Hubs and I have been wanting to go to a Renaissance Festival for years. There never have been any really close to us so we have not been able to make our dreams come true. Last year, we missed the Colorado one by a week so this year, we made it a priority to go. It’s about an hour away from where we live but we were committed to going. This place was awesome. It was done really well. I don’t know why but we thought it was going to be this rinky-dink affair but no, this was 100% legit and we felt bad for not being in costume.
We walked around, getting the feel for the place before stopping at the Ye Olde Money Machine (seriously, that’s what the sign said) so we could play some games. We did archery, which Piglet was surprisingly good at for having never tried it before. They won a feather for a prize and we carried on. My number one goal was to get a giant turkey leg. That is like The Thing that comes to mind when I think about renaissance festivals. That and mead but it was like 10 am and I can’t party like that anymore.
After we ate, we walked around some more. We were looking for the Queen because some knight gave us pieces of a treasure map and said if we found her, should would share some treasure with us. We missed the jousting but were able to see the knights on their horses and we found the Queen! The kids got some treasures and then we picked up some souvenirs. The boys got wooden swords and Blueberry got a pretty flower crown.
It was a really fun day. Colorado summers aren’t very hot so we were able to stay all day. Next time we go, Hubs says we have dress up so that should be a fun time. Have you ever gone to a renaissance festival? What’s your favorite part?
