It’s time for another sewing tutorial! Our youngest baby is teething like crazy and is in dire need of bibs. Being the crafty mama that I am, I decided to whip some up and lucky you reader, I am sharing the pattern with you so you can make your own bibs too! All you need is some flannel, some string, and some baby snaps. Oh and this sewing pattern. Print it at 100% and tape the edges together.
After you print out the pattern, cut it out and tape the edges together. Make sure before you sew anything, you prewash your fabric. This is to help with your finished product not shrinking. Iron the fabric and get ready to cut your fabric. You will need a front and a back for each bib so be sure to cut out 2 patterns for every 1 bib you are sewing.
Pin the right sides of your bib together and sew almost all the way around. Keep an opening so you can turn to bib right side out. After you sew around and turn it right side, press the bibs well and get ready to top stitch the bib to close it and to make it look “finished.”
I used plastic snaps to create the closure for the bib. I like the snap tool but if you use the metal snaps, they come with a pin to use with your hammer. After that, you’re done!
Baby Bib Tutorial
For one bib, you will need:
- 2 fat quarters of flannel
- coordinating thread
- this pattern
- Prewash your fabric and iron smoothly. Pin pattern to the fabric and cut out 2 pieces
- Pin the right side of the bib together and sew almost the complete way around the bib
- Turn right side out and press
- Top stitch the edges to close the bib
- Put snaps on the bib straps
- Put bib on baby!
And that’s it! Have you ever made clothes or bibs for your baby?
