Mother’s Day is coming up. Being an Army family means that we are not near my mom and growing up in an Army family meant that she was not near her mom so we have become pros at care packages for our moms. Thankfully, the AAFES on our military base have got us covered. American Greetings is my favorite brand of cards, tissue paper, and gift wrap since they have a wide selection for every mom, aunt, sister, grandma. If you’ve got a female relative, American Greetings has you covered. And right now, through May 14th, you can save $2 on 3 cards so you can buy for every mom in your life.
This year, we decided to go analog. Remember when digital photo frames were in? I never could figure those out. I’m more of a printed picture kind of gal and so I printed off several 4×4 pictures, picked up a blank picture frame, some tissue paper and cards and got down to creating a one-of-a-kind gift for my mom.
You will also need some liquid glue and a paint brush. I used a foam brush but any brush will do. To get started on your decoupage frame, you will need to pick out some tissue paper and rip it up into quarter-ish sized pieces. They don’t have to be exact, feel free to let your kids get in on this craft. After all your mom is they’re grandma.
Paint a thin layer of liquid glue onto the wood, working in small sections, quickly place your tissue paper down. Don’t worry if the tissue paper goes over the frame edge, you can clean it up at the end. Once you’ve covered the entire frame with tissue paper, lightly blot the tissue paper with some more liquid glue to seal it. Don’t worry if there are white marks, the glue dries completely clear.
Once the frame is completely dry, trim way the edges and get your package ready. I got a mom card and a couple grandma cards. My kids love to tell “knock knock” jokes with my mom so when I found that yellow card, I knew it would be perfect. I also put about 20 pictures into the package so she can switch them out as she pleases.
