Here in Colorado, the sun is shining! It’s always shining actually. They say the sun shines 360 days a year. Since the sun is always shining, it is important to keep ourselves and our kids safe from UVA/UVB rays. Sunscreen should be worn all the time, not just at the pool! And our favorite is Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen, We have yet to swim here but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been active. As you know, we love to hike in our family and today, I am sharing 5 essentials for hiking with kids.
1. Good Shoes
Hiking is not the time for flip flops. We always make sure to put our kids in sneakers when we go on hikes. This protects their feet from sticks and rocks. It also helps keep things clean since their shoes will get muddy but their feet will not so it’s a bonus on keeping your car clean too!
2. A Baby Carrier
We have little kids. Little non-walking kids and some of our hikes are not stroller friendly so having a baby carrier is great. We like to “backpack” our babies. This allows us to do hikes that we may have missed if we just were dependent on a stroller. Especially a double stroller, which is very limiting.
3. and 4. Snacks and (lots) of Water
Snacks are important post hike! If the hike is particularly long, we pack our snacks and water with us as a treat at the halfway point. When we carry snacks with us, we keep additional snacks and water in the car for after. Making sure we get enough water on hikes is key. No one wants to get dehydrated!
Sunscreen is important! I love using Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen because they offer a variety of products for the whole family. Since Nugget is 7 months old, Blue Lizard® Baby is perfect. Apply Blue Lizard® 15 minutes prior to going out in the sun and you will be 1 step closer to keeping your baby safe from UVA/UVB rays. The best part about Blue Lizard® is that the bottle changes from white to pink when exposed to UV rays so it is a great visual reminder to reapply your sunscreen every few hours.
