Remember my beautiful playroom reveal? Yeah. It only looked like that for the pictures. In reality, toys have taken over. Like every where. I always feel so guilty purging toys because I will be like “but my relative gave this to my kid 67 months ago and while they never play with it, they may one day!” This drives my husband crazy and prompted by our kids throwing things over the half wall to the stairs, I raided that sucker and cleaned house. Thankfully, a Dollar Tree just opened up in our neighborhood so I got a ton of new buckets for $1 each.
Like seriously. Who takes everything thing off the shelves? We were using fabric boxes but the sturdy bottoms had been tossed out or lost so they were basically useless. I chose to get hard buckets from Dollar Tree. I also was determined to get rid of the 3×4 square shelves since it is super flimsily. I sorted through the books and took out all the ripped and broken ones. The picture books that my kids have outgrown, I set aside as well. I also got rid of a ton of cars and all the “little people” princesses because Blueberry has moved on to Barbies. Once that was done, I had the kids help me fill up each bucket so they knew what goes where.
I also got rid of a bunch of stuffed animals. A lot were either ones from my childhood that I never really felt connected to or ones the kids didn’t play with. I hate getting rid of stuffed animals because I always wonder what happens to them once I donate them but I stood fast and put them in the donate pile. I also succeeded in getting rid of the other shelving so yay! I was able to makea larger playing area for our musical rockers and the doll house from my childhood. Maybe one day I’ll even buy furniture for it. 😉
I also wanted to show off my baby wall. Previously, I was missing 2 kids but now, it’s all complete! My mom recently asked why the boys are all newborns and Blueberry is 3ish months old. I honestly have no answer other than I really like the picture of her. Ha! You can see my tutorial for the newborn baby hats here.
Do you ever go through and purge things? Is it hard for you to let go too?
