We’re getting back into hiking. You may remember we were pretty active in Hawaii but with moving here, being pregnant, and then the holidays, we haven’t gotten out much. A couple weeks ago, we were going to go to the annual Fruitcake Toss in Manitou Springs but it wasn’t as exciting as thought so as we drove home, we passed the Red Rock Canyon Open Space and decided to take a walk around it.
It was a little cloudy and kind of chilly – it is winter after all but we made the most of it. We did one of the smaller loops since we didn’t have our off-road stroller. The kids found some huge reeds and pretended they were knights, yelling “charge!” before running around. It was funny.
I’m still trying to get used to Colorado’s beauty. I told my husband that Hawaii has spoiled us beyond belief. I know people love the mountains and visit here on vacation but I’m still like “but they’re just red rocks?” Maybe in the spring when things are more green?
The trail is very easy. There were a few parts with stairs but Hubs just carried the stroller over those parts. All 3 big kids were able to walk the entire thing on their own, except when Mac was being lazy. But what can you do? He’s 20 months old.
Since we were bummed with the Fruitcake Toss, going on this hike salvaged our Saturday. If you’re ever in Colorado Springs, I definitely recommend checking out the Red Rock Canyon Open Space.
