Are you ready for some brunch? I am. Christmas brunch is one of my favorite dishes. This is the first time I am hosting my entire family and I want to make a few dishes so there’s a lot to eat. With 11 people in the house, having several options will be key. Hubs recently mentioned that he wanted to make a French Toast Casserole and so I thought, why not!? I found a good gluten free baguette and decided to give it a try.
Additionally, you need some milk, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. French toast usually has eggs in it but Blueberry is allergic to them so I omitted them so she could also enjoy the casserole. Before you combine all the ingredients, preheat the oven for 375 degrees and heavily spread butter all over the pan. Add the bread and pour the ingredients over the bread. Mix it all together and let it sit for 10 minutes to let the milk soak into the bread.
This casserole takes about 40 minutes to bake. When it’s done, let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving it. I liked mine sprinkled with powdered sugar but Hubs liked his with syrup. Either way, the casserole pairs great with Minute Maid Orange Juice. It is the perfect compliment to the sweet and savory casserole. You can find it at Safeway and it is a part of the Coca-Cola Shutterfly offer I recently talked about!
– 1 French baguette
– 1 cup of whole milk
– 1 tsp vanilla
– 2 tsp cinnamon
1. Cut baguette into bite-sized pieces. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees and grease a pan with butter.
2. Put bread in the pan and cover with milk and vanilla mixture. Mix well and sprinkle cinnamon over. Let rest for 10 minutes to allow bread to absorb.
3. Bake for 40 minutes. Serve with powdered sugar or syrup.
Minute Maid Orange Juice can be found in the refrigerated section at your local Safeway!
