I don’t know about you but I have a heck of a time with stocking holders. We have not used the same ones any year in a row. It’s not just my changing styles, it’s also adding kids but since we’re done, I decided it was time to get some that I will like for a while. But I couldn’t find anything so I made my own. It’s super easy and I so I wanted to share in case you too are having issues with stocking holders.
All you need are some wooden plaques, paint, hooks, and vinyl (if you want to personalize them). I got everything at Michaels – minus the hooks. I am SO glad to be in the land of good craft stores again. The deals they had on Black Friday were so awesome. Moving on…
Since we have 6 people in our house, I did 3 red and 3 green. The colors I bought were too “red and green” so I added in some white to tone down the color. Once the first coat was done, I added a second coat and waited for the paint to dry. The hooks were found in the hardware section of Walmart and came in a pack of 6. I pre-drilled the holes and then screwed in the hooks.
To make them a little more special, I got these holly initial design from the silhouette store and cut out some silver vinyl. These are ours, M for Mom, D for Dad. I think it added a little bit of specialness to each one.
So, now our stockings are hung on the mantle and look great (My mom made all our stockings and they’re sooo pretty). I attached them using command strips. I don’t know if they’ll hold up a full stocking but we usually put those at each person’s seat at the table. I mean, Santa puts them at the table once they’re stuffed. 😉
Have you decorated for Christmas yet? I’d imagine so, it’s already (heh) the second!
