Halloween is over! It’s honestly not my favorite holiday despite my husband loving it. Sorry. This was our first holiday in Colorado so I was excited for that. We live in a fairly new neighborhood and since we’re not on base, we had no idea how trick-or-treating works “out in the wild.” Since we’re not in Hawaii anymore and everyone keeps telling us how cold it gets and how much snow come here, I planned to make the kid’s costumes cold weather friendly. But it was like 80 degrees on Halloween. Great.
I also made the kids some shirts to wear during the day. They’re long-sleeved of course because it’s fall. I still made the kids wear them even though it was warm outside. But they did fine. It was super windy to that made it kind of chilly so the shirts worked out.
Piglet wanted to be Captain America like last year because he just thought once you pick a costume, that’s who you are for the rest of your life. After explaining he could be anything, he decided on vampire so I made him a cape and bought a little suit for him to wear with it.
Blueberry again wanted to be a Disney princess. She’s going on 3 years in a row now. She wanted to be Elsa but I cannot stand Frozen so I convinced her to pick a different one and she chose Ariel. Since I thought it would be cold and I wanted to make something she could wear again, I made more of an interpretation on Ariel. I think it turned out great and I kind of want some pants in that fabric too.
The big kids picked Mac’s costume and chose a goblin. Blueberry wanted to do a goblin from The Labyrinth but that was too hard. I guess I could have done brown shades of fleece but I didn’t think of it at the time. Piglet wanted to do a goblin from some show on Nick Jr. and so that’s kind of what I went with.
This was prior to trick-or-treating. I had to bribe them with candy to get a picture all together and it still isn’t great. Does anyone have tricks to get multiple kids to smile at the same time? Send them my way.
They were only gone about 30 minutes and had full buckets. We only had about 8 trick-or-treaters so we have a TON of candy left. I don’t know if the kids go elsewhere or what but Halloween was pretty quiet on our street. This was Nugget’s first Halloween and he slept through it. I was going to get him a sleeper that said “My First Halloween” or something but 1. those are expensive for 1 time use and 2. I forgot. He also just hung out in a baby wrap all night. No pictures of me, no pictures of him. Sorry!
How was your Halloween? Did you get a lot of visitors?
