Last summer, I finally tackled staining wood and I have been happy with my little toilet paper box. This summer, we have moved into a new house and have a nice big guest bathroom. Okay, so it’s not really just the guest bathroom, the kids also use it but since I am expecting a lot of guests in the coming months, I wanted to make something to organize the bathroom and not make it so childlike. I decided to make a hanging organizer for my kid’s toiletries in a chic gold color so it would match my gold basket that I always keep stocked with Quilted Northern® Ultra Soft & Strong® with Cleanstretch (9 Mega Rolls). It’s the perfect size to hold 3 rolls right on the counter and still look classy.
Do you want to make a mason jar organizer too? Of course you do!
Here’s what you need:
- 3 mason jars
- 3 metal pipe connectors
- length of wood – mine is about 10 inches long
- assorted shades of brown paint
- gold paint
- foam paint brush
- frosted glass spray paint
- 3 wood screws
- electric drill
- mounting strips
First up, you need to paint your board. Using a couple different shades of brown, I used a foam brush to cover the entire board. This gives the board more dimensions and it won’t look so flat. At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use a paint brush but the foam brush worked out just fine.
Let the brown dry a little bit and then squirt a few drops of gold on your board. Using a sponge, spread the gold paint around. I like the sponge because it gives the board an almost 3-dimensional look to it. Set it aside to dry.
Next, take your mason jars and turn them upside down. Take your frosted glass spray paint and coat the jars and your pipe connectors with a few coats. The paint takes a minute to show up as frosted so go slow and take your time. Don’t keep spraying the same area over and over without giving the paint time to cure. Let these dry completely before attaching them to the board.
Take a metal drill bit and drill between 2 of the holes on the pipe connectors. You want to make a hole large enough for the screws to go through. Make sure to give the connector enough room to tighten your mason jar to the board or you’ll have to take it off the board, redo the hole, and reattach it. Ask me how I know. 😉
In order to attach it to my wall, I used mounting strips in each corner of the board. Make sure you get strips that will hold the amount of weight you are going to store. Since I’m just using this to store toothbrushes, toothpaste, and hairbrushes, I used 4 pound strips.
Now that you’ve finished your organizer, you can prepare your guest bathroom. The Quilted Northern® Ultra Soft & Strong® with Cleanstretch mega pack keeps my guest bathroom fully stocked and organized for any guests or last minute parties. Even with the 9 Mega Rolls, there’s no need to worry about refilling because Mega is a 4X bigger roll (*than their regular rolls). I like to keep 3 rolls in my basket on the counter and the rest of the package fits perfectly underneath the sink.
So, are you looking to prepare for any and everything? You can pick up Quilted Northern® at your local Walmart. Having it on hand means you will always be ready and with the holiday season getting ready to start up, it’s never too early to stock up!
