Happy 4th of July! Oh wait, we did that already. 😛 This was our last 4th of July in Hawaii and we went out with a bang. I’ve been wanting to stay at one of several MWR beach cabins on Oahu and it was the lingering item on our bucket list. These cabins can be reserved a year in advance and so we haven’t been able secure a room but I took a look at one of the websites and there was an opening on the 4th of July so I jumped on it. For the day, the kids got some coordinating shirts. Blueberry was a little jealous that her shirt was blue while the boys had red but got over it quickly and made sure Hubs wore a red shirt too because “boys are wearing red today Dad.” So demanding, so cute. Meanwhile, Piglet just tried to help Mac stay focused for the pictures but as you can see, it didn’t turn out too well.
Since the cabins have a kitchen, we made a pit stop at Walmart for some food (and a new bathing suit for me because I apparently didn’t pack mine) and the headed out. We stayed at Pililaau Army Recreation Center on the west side so it took a while to get there. The west side of the island is so pretty and I’m kind of sad we didn’t spend more time over there but as much as I love exploring the island, I hate driving so sacrifices had to be made.
Once we got there, our cabin wasn’t ready yet so we had a picnic lunch and then went for a swim. The water was nice and since there are a couple jetties, the waves weren’t too bad. Piglet and Blueberry were all about it. Mac stayed in his little float for awhile but he prefers to crawl around on the sand and collect rocks. The water was also calm enough for us to sit back in our chairs and watch them play.
Once our cabin was ready, we were more than ready. We had the first in our row so we had a front row setting for the beach. Every cabin has it’s own grill and picnic table plus a deck with a set of chairs and a table. We got a 2 bedroom, our room had a full size bed and the older kids shared a room with 2 twins. Poor Mac had to sleep on a makeshift bed on the floor, which he did for about 30 minutes before he rolled off the blanket bed I made him so he ended up in bed with us. Can someone please explain why babies turn in circles in their sleep? It’s so obnoxious.
The kitchen comes with pots, pans, cups, plates, and whatnot so we were able to cook dinner. We were going to grill out but we forgot to pick up charcoal so I cooked our brats on the stove but we did eat outside so that’s keeping with the theme of 4th of July barbecues, right?
After dinner, we played with some glowing bracelets that I picked up from the dollar spot at Target. We watched the sun set and waited to see if any of our neighbors were going to set off fireworks but surprisingly, no one did. I was not too bummed because I don’t care for fireworks but Hubs was kind of sad. Oh well.
The next day, we ate breakfast and headed home. I’m so pumped we did everything on our bucket list and I can’t wait to make a new one at our next duty location!
Did you all have a good holiday? Do you know anything fun to do in Colorado?
