We celebrated Mac’s birthday over the weekend. My tiny little dude is one. A baby no more. It was a fun day and he really enjoyed himself. Since we’re in Hawaii, we went with a luau theme and we also blew up a package of balloons. Mac did not stop screaming in delight once we tossed those into the living room. It was like he finally knew the meaning of life. lol
But seriously, balloons were a huge hit. Mac also got his own little chair, every kid has gotten one for their first birthday and apparently Pottery Barn has added a new size because I spent the same amount of money but Mac’s is smaller than the other 2. I’m a little irritated by that but he loves it so I’ll just get over myself.
For the party decorations, I kept it simple. Hubs wanted me to find an inflatable tiki but I couldn’t. I got these table topppers instead and got all the kids inflatable ukuleles instead. Those were a hit. The big kids love to play “rock and roll!” so these were a hit. For the cake, I halved this recipe and used a gluten-free flour blend so that I could also eat some. Blueberry said that Mac’s favorite color was blue so I went with that for the icing color. Mac is the first kid to actually enjoy the cake and give us the classic cake smash, which Hubs was super excited about.
Over all, it was a pretty good party. Mac doesn’t have to share his birthday with anyone so it seemed low key when thinking about past birthday parties but it was still a great time. And Mac seemed to be in a great mood all day so I call that a first birthday win!
