The other day, Hubs decided we should do a hike. The kids had done pretty well on the Ka’ena Point Trail and decided to try something else. The only hike we could think of was doing the Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail, it’s pretty easy and we figured the kids could do it. When we arrived, it was super hot. But then I saw this sign “Kaiwi Shoreline Open Follow Trail” and I convinced Hubs to take the trail.
The trail is pretty short and opens up into a tidepool. Since we were unprepared for the beach, the kid just took their shoes off and played around in the sand. I walked around and explored the shoreline some more. If you follow along the shoreline, there are several tidepools all in a row. Most were too crazy to get into but the first one we saw was swimable.
While I followed the shoreline, there is a trail to get to the other tidepools. You have to go through some pretty tall grass though. The grass was almost as tall as the kids!
Overall, it turned out to be a really fun day. I’m sure the hike up to the lighthouse would have been miserable. The kids would have whined and cried but instead we got to play in the sand and get our toes wet.
Always a good day in my book!
