Do you ever have a piece of furniture that you like but there’s just one thing missing from it? Our shoe shelf was that for me. It used to hold kid toys. When we originally bought it from IKEA, we didn’t get feet for it because it was for toys but now, we use it for shoes and it being flat on the floor annoyed me.
So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Picking up some feet and connectors from the local hardware store, I got to work.
First I needed to paint my feet. I have a ton of acrylic paint on paint on hand so that was easy. My black is a matte, which in retrospect doesn’t match exactly but oh well. After I painted them, I let them dry over night.
Using my cordless drill, I installed the connectors. I wanted them to be flush with the end but Hubs pointed out that the wood didn’t line up so I had to push the connector inward.
Once they were all drilled, the feet just screw right in. So easy!
And there you have it! Our shoe cabinet has extended our kitchen island about 1.5 feet. It’s perfect now for all decorations. I can use that space to decorate for the various holidays without giving up island space.
Have you ever upgraded a piece of furniture? What’s a good tip you have?
