Hello everyone! I saw this little survey from Jessica Lynn Writes and decided to borrow it. Growing up as an Army brat, moving and traveling has always been a huge part of my life and while Hawaii is technically a state, it feels like a foreign country….so…let’s get down to it!
A) Age you went on your first international trip: 6? My family and I were moving to Germany for my dad’s job.
B) Best foreign beer wine you’ve had and where: Münchner Weisse at the Hofbräuhaus in München.
C) Cuisine (favorite): Asian food. Or Hawaiian food, which is a fusion of Asian and American cuisine.
D) Destinations–favorite, least favorite, and why?: Recently, it was our trip to Seoul. Hubs couldn’t come with us but I still thought it was amazing. I never thought that I would go to Asia. Least favorite? Spain as a child because I got so sick and the only thing I remember about the trip is puking. Puke everywhere.
E) Event you’ve experienced abroad that made you say “wow”: Have you ever heard the stereotype that Asians love blondes? It is 100% true. From the start of our journey to Seoul, everyone was taking pictures of my kids just to have a picture of a blondie. Wow.
F) Favorite mode of transportation: Car. As the passenger. My husband loves to drive so that works out super.
G) Greatest feeling while traveling: I love traveling with my kids and thinking “oh man, these kids are so lucky!” My little travelers. I hope they appreciate it when they’re older.
H) Hottest place you’ve ever traveled to: the Bahamas on my cruise from college. That one time I went on Spring Break.
I) Incredible service you’ve experienced and where?: I love going on staycations here. Everyone has that Aloha spirit.
J) Journey that took the longest: Our flight to Seoul took 11 hours, neither of my kids slept, and I was 16 weeks pregnant. Because why let life be boring, right?
K) Keepsake from your travels: It used to be shot glasses but now, I stick to magnets. They’re a lot easier to display.
L) Let-down sight, where and why?: When we lived in Germany, we drove to France. The one and only time I’ve been to France. I got a salad for lunch and it had olives, which I love, but the olives weren’t pitted and I was absolutely disgusted. I still cannot let it go and I was 7.
M) Moment where you fell in love with traveling: Being raised as an Army brat, I have always been traveling. It’s just something I was brought up with.
N) Nicest hotel you’ve stayed in: The hotel at Aulani was amazing. Disney is always amazing. I love it.
O) Obsession—What are you obsessed with taking pictures of while traveling?: Food. Call it the instagrammer in me but I love a good food post. LOL
P) Passport stamps-how many and from where?: I think just 2: Germany and South Korea. I know we traveled a lot when we lived in Germany. It was before the EU was formed so maybe we got our passports stamped, who knows. I don’t have that passport with me.
Q) Quirkiest attraction you’ve visited and where?: When we lived in Germany, we went to Legoland in Denmark and saw Titania’s Palace. It’s a miniature palace built for the fairy that Sir Nevile Wilkinson’s daughter said she saw in the garden. It is so impressive. And it has stuck with me all these years.
R) Really Frightening: where’s one place you’ve visited where you felt unsafe or uneasy?: Two things always stress me out: people targeting me or my kids and getting kidnapped or being targeted for being in the military. When we travel, we don’t use military bags, ACU print on nothing. Hubs grows his hair out a little and gets some stubble. It’s stressful but vacations are still worth it so we don’t stop.
S) Splurge-something you have no problem spending money on while traveling: Hotels. I have zero problem spending money on a good hotel. I want to be comfortable while traveling. I want my kids to be comfortable so, I love a good resort. But we have some good reward programs so we usually get upgraded.
T) Touristy thing you’ve done: Being here in Hawaii, it’s so fun to go to the other islands. Even though we live on Oahu, the islands are all different so it’s so fun to pretend that we’re just here on vacation. Seeing the Volcano National Park was a once in a lifetime experience.
U) Unforgettable travel memory: Traveling to Seoul was amazing. I seriously always pictured myself going back to Europe as an adult but I never dreamed I would make it to Asia.
V) Visas-how many and for where?: None. How boring. Well, that’s not true. Maybe I needed one as a child.
W) Wine–best glass while traveling: I honestly don’t think I have had a glass of wine in another country. I should change that.
X) eXcellent view and from where?: Seeing Oahu from the air was so cool. Hubs doesn’t like helicopters so I am so glad we got to go.
Y) Years spent traveling: My entire life. 29 years and counting!
Z) Zealous sports fans and where?: I don’t know? Germany is nuts for soccer so I guess them? I’m not much of a sports fan.
So now you’ve read my ABCs, it’s your turn!
