Since the kids are old enough this year to fully understand Halloween, Hubs and I decided to make it Big. Hubs loves Halloween, in his mind, it kicks off the holiday season and so we decided that Saturday would be all about treats. No tricks here, we promise!
I made cupcakes with sprinkles in the batter and got some cute little toppers from Walmart. They were Piglet’s favorite part. The toppers, not the cupcakes because cupcakes are “yucky.”
We made some spooky sangria too. It has pears, oranges, and pineapple and it 1 part citron vodka to 2 parts red wine. Swirl some agave nectar on the top of your glass and get ready to party!
In addition to the cupcakes, I also attempted to make candy corn sugar cookies. They kind of failed but I had to freehand the shapes. I also made regular sugar cookies and frosted them with vanilla frosting.
For our main activity (during the day) we let the kids paint their pumpkins and Hubs carved our big ones. Even though we went to the pumpkin patch, the kids insisted on the tiny ones from the commissary. Whatever makes you happy I guess.
It’s all fun and games until someone touches the paint. Then everything just gets crazy!
After the pumpkins were done, I cooked up the seeds. It’s the only reason to have a pumpkin really. Pumpkin Pie and PSLs are food for the Devil. Gimme the seeds any day!
Finally, it was dusk and the kids could put on their costumes. Piglet was so pumped for his superhero outfit and Blueberry would not stop going on about her Belle costume. Macadamia didn’t really care one way or another but he sure seemed to enjoy his gumball hat.
And I still can’t get them to all look at the camera at the same time. :/ One day, maybe.
How was your Halloween? Have you forgotten about it already and moved onto Christmas?
