A couple weekend’s ago, Hubs and I got to do something that I have been wanting to do for a long time, Paint and Sip. Now Hubs and I paint and sip wine at home all the time but I wanted to go out and do it. Our wonderful neighbors found a night and we decided to do a double date.
This winery is on the windward side of the island and is a place I have been itching to go to. You can go sample wine and even make and bottle your own! I think we’re going to do it for Hub’s birthday. For this Paint and Sip, there were 2 custom wine blends – a white and red for us to take home. The picture on the bottle was our painting inspiration for the evening.
This being Hawaii, everything is laid back. Wine was provided but food was not so our co-daters were like “I’m bringing snacks!” and then brought damn near everything. But it was so. good. The cheese dip was amazing. I have to get the recipe from her!
Everyone had the same setup upon arrival. A canvas, some paint, and wine glass. Wine for sipping was included but there were some greedy people who were closer to the tap and we ended up getting maybe 2 drinks? I don’t know, it was kind of rude.
I did learn some tips though, one was to outline in yellow. The teacher kept saying “it’s okay, you can cover up the yellow” and I 100% did not believe her but you know what? Trust your teachers because this woman knew what she was talking about.
Since we went on #ForceFriday, Hubs went off script and started adding his own details. While the teacher was like “be creative!” she was very upset that Hubs didn’t make a sand dollar. I went with the plan though because I wanted to learn the techniques she had. I do like to paint and this was proving to be a helpful night.
Our wine server was apparently a 12 year old because she 1. didn’t realize that was the Death Star and 2. didn’t know what Star Wars was. It’s hard admitting that I’m getting old. Oh well.
At some point a weird homeless guy came in and showered our table with plumeria. We decorated our easels with them and I finished up my painting. I am most happy with my seashell. I guess “sunset seashells” are A Thing here in Hawaii. Like so much so that people pay big bucks for a seashell. One you can find on a beach. So nuts.
It was a pretty fun night. If we ever do one again at this place, we will sit closer to the wine ladies because half the point of Paint and Sip is to sip, you know what I mean? But the winery had a cool vibe and we will go back and make our own wine. So, our family better get ready for some wine bottles with my face on it. 😉
