One of the remaining things on my Hawaiian Bucket List is climbing Koko Head. It’s basically a giant StairMaster. Straight up, using railroad ties are the stairs and there’s no pause. Hubs has done it 4 times. Last Friday, he had me go with him to walk up it.
It is no joke. I already have an irrational fear about hiking. I’m always thinking I’m 1 breath away from falling to my death. Anyway, about 1/3 of the way up, I started really freaking out. The next day, I was doing a half marathon and I really didn’t want to get hurt (or die) so I turned around. Maybe I’ll try it again but maybe not. I was seriously freaked out.
The next day was the second half marathon since living on the island. Hubs didn’t want to do it with me so I went alone. I woke up super early and headed out. I had planned to run at least part of it but I didn’t actually train in the whole running department. I’ve been on a steady steam of walking 4 miles a day and so I decided to walk it all and that I would do it in less than 4 hours.
And I did! 3 hours and 50 minutes later, I crossed the finish line. An 8-year-old finished 2 minutes ahead of me. He was seriously motivating. Honestly, I was like “if this kid can do it, so can I!”
So, maybe I didn’t climb to the top of Koko Head and I didn’t run my second half marathon but I did do A LOT this weekend. And I’m pretty proud. 3 months postpartum and I am kicking ass!
