I long time ago, I found a pin for displaying newborn hats but all it was a picture. No tutorial, no way to do it. So I decided I would figure it out myself.
And then nearly 5 years went by, and I added 2 more children to the mix. I finally decided to get with the program and make them. So of course, I couldn’t find shadow boxes on the island. While Hubs was on the mainland last month, he picked up 3 for me. Why he picked out 2 squares and 1 rectangle, the world may never know.
Here’s what you need:
A shadow box
Double-sided tape from the scrapbooking section. Make sure it’ permanent and acid-free so your hat will stay nice.
Baby’s hospital band
*not pictured: straight pins*
I thought the background of my shadowbox was black but it wasn’t so I used some scrapbook paper (acid-free again) and taped it to the back side. Then I used the tape to tack down the hat and the hospital bracelet. It was pretty easy and I am thrilled with how good they look.
I mean, how cute? And now I can have all 3 on display. No more keeping them hidden in a little box in the closet. It’s so crazy how little the hats are. Even Macadamia Nut, just 2 months later can’t even fit into his anymore.
Babies grow too fast. :/
**UPDATE** The tape was not strong enough for the hospital bands so I took some straight pins and pinned them to the back. I recommend using them from the start so you don’t have to redo your craft. 🙂
