In the never-ending quest to DIY my entire house, I decided to make some garland for Blueberry’s room. Our outside walls have a layer of sheet metal in them to keep our termites so after you drill in about half an inch, unless you have some heavy powered drill, you can’t get a screw in. This makes hanging curtains difficult.
So, instead of suffering with boring windows, I decided to search Pinterest and found a snazzy idea here. I showed Hubs to see if he liked it and while he liked the concept, he didn’t like the colors. But I was like “dude, I’m not going to copy is exactly!”
I decided to make 9 little fairies, using purple, turquoise, and pink. Those are the colors that are already in her room so it just made sense. The original garland also chopped the peg people in half but I don’t have a saw or time to cut a 3 inch peg into a 1.5 inch peg. The pom poms were pretty easy but I admit, I bought the little tool to make them. I experimented with making them on my hand but I didn’t like how the turned out. Plus I had a 40% off coupon.
Painting faces is always the hardest part. I don’t know how people do it. Mine ended up looking a little Asian but why not? I’m sure there are fairies in that part of the world too. Blueberry thought they were for playing and was sad when I told her “no, they’re for your window” but as soon as I hung them up, she said “ooh pretty!”
Nothing like a 2 year old to make yourself feel good. 🙂
