One of the things we did over the holiday was go to Sea Life Park. It’s kind of like Sea World but small, way smaller. Of course, O’ahu isn’t a huge place so you can’t really have Shamu here. The park is past Waikiki on a part of the island that I rarely go to so the drive down was pretty nice. You’d think with an island so small, I’d go everywhere but the windward side, not so much.
So, there’s some interesting things to see. The website promised penguins and Piglet is obsessed with them so we promised him we would see them. I foolishly thought it would be an indoor enclosure for cold weather Happy Feet penguins but no, they were warm weather penguins that don’t look like the ones on TV and Piglet was unimpressed. Sorry kid. We saw a Walphin, an abomination of a whale and dolphin baby who has it’s own baby. Gross.
We saw some sea lions do a little show, Piglet and Blueberry didn’t care for it. There was a baby sea turtle that Piglet got to hold but he was with Hubs who didn’t take a picture so I missed that one. I tried to recreated it with Blueberry but she was having none of it.
There was this giant bird cage where you could go in and feed the birds and everyone wanted to go. I was nervous because Piglet likes to chase birds away. If he sees one, he runs at them and yells “shoo shoo!” But he did super inside the cage. Everyone but Blueberry got to hold a bird, despite Piglet yelling at them to “eat bird!!”
We finished the day with a bottle nose dolphin show. It lasted about 20 minutes. It was cute. Dolphins are cute after all but if you’ve ever been to Sea World, you know what a show can be so it was a little lame. The cutest part was Blueberry trying to whistle like her dad.
It was a good day, the park isn’t every expensive and it checked something off our bucket list we didn’t even know we wanted to do. Win!
