Hubs has been working Saturday mornings and will be until the end of the fiscal year because this is the busiest time for his office. It’s a huge bummer because that means we only get a day and a half with the whole family. Last weekend, actually, one the 1 year anniversary of living being on island, we went to a luau. It’s on my bucket list and our sitter offered a date night so we accepted. We went full on tourist and wore our finest Hawaiian threads.
In Hawaiian culture, flowers are very important. If you’re married, flowers go on your left side. The lady helping us make them was asking all the ladies if they were single or not and I thought “man, being single on vacation here must just be a constant reminder of being single.” Oh well, I’m taken and my headband told everyone that.
Even though we had the cheap seats, which meant we were just on the wings and not in the center. It was still a great view of the show. Of course, my pictures don’t do it justice because they’re just from my phone but next time, I’ll bring the real camera. The show was about an hour long and so amazing. Those hula dancers are on point.
In addition to the show, there’s other activities to do. You can row some of these boats, or make headbands. There was a table for tattoos, lei making, and there was a lady who would put like 20 parrots on you for a picture (no thanks). There’s also little lessons about Hawaiian culture which was cool. We missed them bringing out the pig but next time, we’ll pay more attention.
The food was super good. When we arrived, we got a Mai Tai while we waited in line for our pictures – which we forgot to look, whoops! We also tried a Sunset Mai Tai which just had more rum on top. Just more yum for me. 😉 Dinner was delicious. Except for poi but oh well. It was unlimited trips and we took advantage. The pork was great. The mac salad was wonderful. So yummy. Hawaiian food is so good.
It was a super great night, the food was good. We tried poi (never again) and ate our weight in pulled pork. Well not really but we could have. I’m so thankful that we have a sitter who is willing to watch the kids every once in a while because usually we don’t get a date night unless my parents are in town.
