So, it’s been about a month of ABA Therapy with Piglet and I cannot believe the change in him. When we first started, the therapist asked me how he responds to questions. It used to be like this:
Me: Do you want some juice?
The therapists asked me if he ever said “Yes” and I realized that I had never heard him say the word “yes” before. How crazy is that? Three and a half years old and he’s never said yes. Now? He said “yes please” all the damn time. In fact, he says “yes please” so much that he has trouble remembering to be patient and so now we’re working on “waiting.”
Autism and patience don’t always go hand in hand. But we’re working on it.
We’re also working on sharing. On taking turns. On being kind instead pushy.
If you had asked me 3 months ago what life with Piglet and autism would be like, they would not be it. He has changed so much in such a short amount of time, I can’t believe it. Between that and school, he has progressed so much I can’t believe it.
I know it’s crazy but I’m hoping that by the time we go to kindergarten, he’ll be able to be in a normal class. Wishful thinking right?
