Last week Hubs had a family PT event and it was to hike Diamond Head. This was one of my bucket list goals and since I read online that it wasn’t kid friendly, I was racking my brains on how to do without them. Luckily, this opportunity came along and so we woke up at 4:45 am and headed on out.
We got there 20 minutes early and had to wait in line behind a bunch of buses before we could enter the park. Hubs accidentally crunched part of the back bumped on our lease and we got to watch the sunrise and a bunch of Asian tourists take a bazillion pictures.
Once the gates were open, we headed in, parked (cried over the damage to the car), and got to hiking. His unit is very small, only about 10 people and half of them decided to run up it. Um, no thanks. Hubs stayed back with me though and we got to walking.
It’s about a 2 mile hike round trip and it took about 40 minutes. There is one part that is 99 stairs and you’ve got to climb up each one. There’s also a part where you walk through a tunnel carved out of the volcano. It was kind of cool and kind of scary. Piglet would not have gone in it, I am sure of that. Other kids were crying about it. Once you get to the top, you’re on an old artillery lookout so there’s an actual building structure that you can stand on and look out. It was pretty neat.
I’m so glad we got to go do it and then afterwards, we had breakfast at Koa Pancake House which is pretty much the bomb and I don’t even like breakfast!
I wonder what our next hike will be? What’s your favorite Hawaiian hike?
