Remember when I said I was moving to Hawaii? Well, the move creeped up on me fast.
The movers are coming the first week of June and then I’m leaving Kentucky for good!
And I’m doing it all by myself. The Hubster is in training so I am packing up the house as soon as possible so it can get on a boat and get to the island. I am also trying to go to my Captain’s Career Course prior to leaving the mainland so we need to get our household goods packed.
I have my last drill with my unit here and then the next day, it’s moving time! My mom is going to come up to help watch the kids while the movers are here and to help out with the drive down to Florida.
There was a monkey wrench today when I discovered it would cost over $4,500 to ship the cats unaccompanied to start their quarantine. I got nervous and thought we would have to get rid of the cats. I even asked my brother if he wanted them but he couldn’t take them. I posed a facebook status asking if anyone wanted them and I died a little.
Then I looked up boarding places in my parent’s hometown (the cats can’t stay there because they have 3 cats of their own and 6 cats in one house is WAAAY too much) and I found an awesome place. The cats get a room in their own townhouse, daily grooming, daily playtime, a fish tank to stare at, huge windows to look out onto the 50 acre land. If they were outdoor or porch cats, they’d get outside time too. It is amazing and will save us $1,000. The way I see it, they have to be boarded for about 75 days anyway, might as well do it in an awesome place together instead of in tiny cages alone.
The bad part is now we have to drive the cats with us to Florida. It’s a 2-day drive, I’m sure we can do it, it’ll just be hard.
Thank you Army for making our first PCS so darn difficult. At least we’re going to paradise, right?
