So, I forgot to mention…we’re moving! Originally, we were going to go to Germany – which would have been awesome but those orders fell through. At first we were all bummed. A perfect assignment just gone.
But then we got our new orders and they said Hawaii! If you follow me of twitter, you’ve probably figured that out all ready. But now we’re in the final countdown. The Hubster is gone to school for 2 months and I’ve got 2 months to get to Florida for the 4th of July holiday.
Step One: The Cats. Since Hawaii is a rabies-free state, they take that stuff seriously. They had to get a rabies shot and blood drawn for an extensive rabies review. They blood test takes 120 days. If you move before 120 days have elapsed, they have to be quarantined. Well, we found out we were moving in less than 120 days so they have to be quarantined. I’m pretty upset about it. I love my cats and I’m going to miss them. I’m probably going to the career course myself before moving to the island the plan now is to send the cats in early June to Hawaii to start their quarantine. It will probably be more expensive but less stressful then trying to pack up our house and drive to Florida with them.
Step Two: Pack up the house. The sooner we pack the house up, the sooner it can ship and since The Hubster and I will probably be spending most of June in Army training with the kiddos at the Grandparent’s house, it just makes sense to clear post as soon as possible. We have to wait until June though because I still have like 12 days of drill to do in May. Once the house is packed, I have to clean it (or pay for someone else to) and drive the kiddos to Grandma’s house in Florida.
Step Three: Sell the Mazda. My older brother is buying it in May and so then we’ll be a 1 car family, spread out over 2-3 states. Super fun time.
Step Four: Ship the GMC. I’m hoping we’ll be able to ship it from Tampa’s port since that’s our home of record. Since we’ll both be in schools, my original plan of shipping it in June won’t work so we’ll have to ship it after the 4th of July holiday. So, we’ll be in Hawaii for without a car longer than expected but I guess that’s okay.
Step Five: Get on the housing list for on-base housing. The Hubster needs his orders for that to happen so we’re just waiting.
Step One and Two will be happening in the first 10 days of June, which is very quickly approaching. Eek! I’ve got a bunch of drill days to work in May so I’m pretty sure the month will fly by and then suddenly, it will be June and I will be packing up the house. The Hubster will be at school so I have to do it myself which is why I want to just pay for someone else to clean it because I can’t imagine cleaning it to “clearing” standard with 2 babies by myself. Step Three is actually happening before Step One and Two so that’ll be fun. Maybe? One less car payment will be nice. The Hubster being in Alabama while I’m in Kentucky with the car might not be. We shall see though. Step Five will hopefully happen any day now. We’ve filled out all the proper paperwork and we’re just waiting on HRC to cut the orders. Come on Army, don’t be so slow! Step Four is actually the last step. Maybe I should re-number them?
Anyone have experience with flying around the world with kids?
Anyone have experience with sending their pets to Hawaii?
Any advice would be awesome!
