This past weekend, we were given the opportunity to attend a Strong Bonds retreat with The Hubster’s unit. I’ve heard a lot about them before while on Active Duty and when the unit was deployed, they did several for the spouses and their children. I never knew The Hubster was willing to go to one since we don’t really go to church and he wasn’t really raised in a religious house. I grew up Catholic and I sometimes wish the I had a Catholic Chaplain so I don’t really know how to act sometimes.
The retreat was so nice. We were in Nashville at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. If you’ve never been there, it’s gorgeous! I felt like it was a 4-star hotel. The room was nice, the restaurants were yummy, and there were so many shops and activities to do.
We had 6 classes and while we were in class, Piglet was in daycare. It was awesome. The ladies were so nice and Piglet had so much fun. The classes were really informative. This weekend focused on communication which was great because for half our marriage, The Hubster has been deployed so we sometimes struggle with communication and speaking in anger instead of constructively.
It was also nice because it gave us a chance to talk to each other about how we want our relationship with God to be. We’ve been talking about starting going to church again and The Hubster has wanted to convert. We decided to start going to church in May, since I have drill this weekend and won’t have time. I think we’re both very excited about it.
I grew up going to church and going to Sunday School and I want Piglet to do the same. When he was baptized, we agreed to raise him (and all subsequent children) in the Catholic faith. I am excited to be getting back to the faith. We’ve been stuck in a rut at home with nothing to do or talk about. This will be a good opportunity for us to grow closer.
