It’s been 2 weeks since piglet was born. He’s gained 1 pound, 1 ounce since birth. It’s excellent since I constantly worry he doesn’t eat enough. I hate when he wakes me up in the middle of the night because I love my sleep but I’m relieved because that means he’s going to eat. He’s started eating more and having a longer period between feedings which is good. He’s growing up so well so far.
Waking up in the middle of the night is hard, but I think I’m getting into a routine. I get him up, change him, feed him, and then pump. I’m able to keep my stock up and the pump noise puts him back to sleep. It takes about 45 minutes but he only gets up 3 times a night so it’s not that bad. Now. Once I go back to work and have to wake up at 5 am every morning, it might not be so great. I hope he starts sleeping and eating longer so we both won’t be grumpy.
I’ve learned a lot so far. For example, sometimes, even if piglet is well fed, dry, and tired – he won’t go to sleep because he just wants to be held. Also, for some reason, he decides only to poo at night so lucky for Daddy, he rarely changes the stinkers. Not fair!
The bottles we’ve been using also has taught me something. We have Avent bottles, which were highly recommended by the doctor and other moms. What no one told me was that they leak something fierce and nothing is more frustrating as leaking my precious breast milk all over the couch, his clothes, my clothes, etc. Also, they apparently have BPA in them! So, now tomorrow, when it’s supposed to start snowing and be really cold, we have to go out and buy new bottles. I’m not sure what brand we’ll get but it will be BPA-free. Our 8 ounce bottles are Tommee Tippee, BPA-free and highly rated, but they’re too big for right now. I hope we can find some 4 ounce Tommee Tippee ones tomorrow but I’m not sure if they make them. :/
